  • Thoroughly enjoyed Tooraweenah
    5th April 2005

Denise and John Collins, gave us a copy of the article they wrote for "The Traveller":

Venture 3 minutes off the Newell Highway to Tooraweenah (Hema map 24 K2) nestled at the foothills of the majestic Warrumbungle Mountains, 42 klms north of Gilgandra or 55 klms south of Coonabarabran. We did, and thoroughly enjoyed our week here. If you like peace and quiet this is your place. Facilities include service station with mechanic, general store/post office, country pub (with meals) hardware store, tennis courts, 9 hole golf course, Telecentre with very reasonable rates.

We did a 147 klm round trip in one day north to Gummin Gummin then east through the Warrumbungles with magnificient views and bush walks ranging from 1 klm to 18 klms with various degrees of difficulty. We also visited Siding Spring Observatory, very informative, then on to Coonabarabran then south via the Newell Highway back to Tooraweenah.

The caravan park has just changed hands and the new owners are planning to do some improvements although we were satisfied with the swimming pool, BBQ and clean amenities. As in most parts of New South Wales, the park isn't as green as it could be but at $16 a night, well worth a visit.
